No Rifles needed here: One of the longest-running places in Fun Town town has been the Winchester Club den of afternoon delights (situated in Soi Wat Boon in Jomtien). Having not been into the joint for far longer than I care to remember I figured it was about time I at least made the effort. I visited with two other friends on a lazy Tuesday afternoon and later on a Thursday, and we were pleasantly surprised. The decor in the enclosed air-conditioned section hasn’t changed much internally over the years, so it all looked quite familiar. For smokers there is a special room off to the side. At the back is an open area with a couple of pool tables that appear to get plenty of customer usage. The music is laid-back 60s and 70s in the main, and perfect to provide background ambience. Libations start at 50 baht for lolly water, bottled amber fluid 65 baht and lady drinks a sensible 75 baht. The quality of wallet emptiers runs the gamut from young, tall and lean to older and ample-proportioned and everything in between. Basically, there is someone to suit every taste. The Winchester was always famous for its Sunday buffet and this remains the case today, the nosh being served up from 3:00pm onwards. Definitely a place to put on the list of joints to frequent.
